Urbana, Illinois
Amy and Sheryl met several years ago through mutual friends. A physician and nurse, respectively, they work in the same hospital but different departments. The two remained friendly until October 2013, when Amy was moving and Sheryl offered to help. After that their friendship grew into something deeper and they began a relationship.
Sheryl proposed to Amy in February 2016 during an evening at one of the couple’s favorite spots, the Station Theatre in Urbana, Il. With the help of friends who set the scene by placing a blanket, a single rose, a candle, and a picture of us in the center of the stage, Sheryl proposed proposed—privately—on stage—before a show. A pre-planned surprise party followed. Says Amy, “Sheryl had another surprise planned. She, her 2 daughters Morgan and Jessie, and Jessie’s boyfriend Josh had met secretly for 2 months to practice the song “I’m Yours” using ukuleles and 1 small drum. They serenaded me to the delight of the guests.”
The brides were married in the greenhouse of Silvercreek Restaurant, which featured a lovely outdoor deck for guests to enjoy.
Wedding Song: “Annie’s Song” by John Denver.
Sheryl’s daughters performed the song as Amy walked down the aisle. Amy and Sheryl say that the song reminds them of each other. They also performed their first dance to “I’ve had the time of my life” from Dirty Dancing. Say the brides, “We included the final lift!” Amy choreographed most of the dance and Sheryl listened to the song repeatedly while doing her 3 mile run 4 days per week for 3 months! Brides’ Favorite Moments: “Sheryl’s brother officiated, which was truly special. Our dance. Basically the entire day, which was perfect.”
Because Sheryl had been married once before, she wanted Amy to be the bride that guests stood for when she walked down the aisle. For this reason, Sheryl waited under the rustic birch arbor as the ceremony began, and Amy was escorted by her mother and stepfather.
The brides had a wonderful day celebrating with friends and family and say they wouldn’t change a thing. They also add, “Our photographers Heather and Kristin were wonderful. They were easy going, fun, and made everyone feel comfortable. After their 8 hours were over, we wanted them to stay and celebrate with us.”
Loving this first look.
The infamous ukuleles.
