Both born and raised in Memphis, TN, Jackie and Katie met through mutual friends during a game night in 2013. The couple began dating in October 2014 and their relationship blossomed over mutual love of Snapchat, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, pizza and softball. Says Jackie, “Katie proved to be a keeper when she discovered I love musicals and took me to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Orpheum theater, then realized she actually had to SIT through the whole show!”
Katie proposed on August 7th 2015 on the beach in Santa Rosa, Fl where the couple was vacationing with friends. Says Jackie, “She waited until the end of our trip to do it, and was acting so strange that whole week I was convinced she was going to break up with me when we got back to Memphis.” Katie had once told Jackie that she wouldn’t get married until the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. Says Jackie, “As we were walking along the shore one night at the end of the trip she blurts out that the Cardinals won the World Series in 2006 and 2011 and then pulled the ring box from her pocket and said, “I know I’ve been acting weird. This is my secret.” I instantly started crying.”
Says Katie, “I actually had the ring for months before deciding to propose. I had never felt anything close to what I felt for Jackie, and that scared me. I told her once that she didn’t give me butterflies, because what I felt was so strong it must be those flying dinosaurs I can’t spell (pterodactyls). That’s become one of our things, and I even had a custom pterodactyl doll made on Etsy for her. When we were walking on the beach I knew I had to do it then, but this group was taking family photos on the beach nearby and was really distracting. I feel bad for making her worry, but I’ll never forget seeing those blue eyes tear up as I opened that ring box. She’s my favorite, and I can’t wait for her to become my wife.
The couple took engagement photos with Smash Studios Photography on a beautiful spring day and will wed on October 1, 2016.
Looks of love.
One happy couple.
