Kadesha and Meg's Perfect Sunday

October 23rd, 2016

Dahlonega, Georgia

Kadesha has been an RN for over 6 years with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice and is currently the Director of Medical Services at Advantage Behavioral Health Systems. Meg is a student affairs professional at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga and is currently pursuing a PhD in Education Administration. The two met while playing women’s professional tackle football for the Pittsburgh Passion. In June 2015 they attended the Women’s World Cup in Canada. Unbeknownst to each other, they each brought rings, and got engaged during the trip.

Shortly after the engagement, Meg was offered a job at the University of Georgia and the couple planned their move down south. However, one of their worries was that GA had not yet passed a marriage equality bill. Just a few short days after Meg accepted her job offer, the Obergefell ruling in the Supreme Court made marriage equality the law of the land. This was fate.

Kadesha and Meg planned a fall wedding at Forrest Hills Resort in Georgia, in front of 70 of their closest friends and family. They rented out a lodge and planned a wedding that spanned the weekend, so they got to enjoy plenty of time with their loved ones. Kadesha made all of the decorations and floral arrangements herself, spending only $200 on flowers from Trader Joe’s.

All of the music was handled by friends and family. Meg was escorted down the aisle by her parents, followed by the wedding party and finally, Kadesha and her father, who walked to a live rendition of Patty Griffin’s “Heavenly Day.” Say the brides, “Our ‘flower girl’ was a friend of ours who happens to be a fabulous drag queen, so of course we had her be our flower queen.”

They had a first dance to “Then There Was You” by Trombone Shorty ft. Ledisi. Say the brides, “Meg loves New Orleans jazz and we both love Ledisi so this song was a perfect combination of the two.”

Meg’s Favorite Moment: “My favorite baseball team (Chicago Cubs) was headed to the World Series around the time of our wedding. For our reveal photos, Kadesha surprised Meg by showing up in a “World Serious” Cubs shirt over her wedding dress.”

Kadesha’s Favorite Moment: “My favorite part of the day was finally getting to say ”I do!” We spent months preparing and waiting for our wedding day, so to finally get to experience it was absolutely wonderful.”

Rather than having father/daughter dances, Meg and Kadesha honored their parents by having each set dance to their own wedding songs. Because theirs was a Sunday morning wedding, the brides featured a Bloody Mary and mimosa bar, which was a huge hit. Kadesha and Meg say that their weekend was perfect, and because the wedding was on Sunday, “We had the entire day to spend with our people.  It was relaxing and filled with lots of laugh and even more love.”
